Careers and Leadership

You Can Lead Effortlessly and Effectively.

You Just Need To Learn How.

Sometimes things change, sometimes we need things to change. Finding the confidence and clarity around transitions is essential to shaping your next phase so it fits you and lets you grow.

Taking the lead places new demands on you, compared to playing as a team member, in the follower position.

Leading involves different skills and perspectives from what you needed when you got told what to do and how.

The effort to try to bridge that gap, to take care of the many and various pressures and demands causes many leaders to strain and stretch themselves too thin.

This strain can get so intense that many report constant headaches, sleep disturbances, or worse.

Some even conclude that leading is not worth the distress, and step down. Some are forced to step down because the stress takes too much of a toll on their health.

Of course, it's not just yourself that gets affected. Your colleagues, your family and friends, anyone in your orbit may suffer while you're trying to protect them by struggling alone and in silence.
A shift in perspective is needed if you are to learn to thrive as a leader.
Goal-posts for leaders are often bafflingly unclear.

Plus, no one seems willing to offer a manual on how to go about leading... You'll come across many more speeches on how important it is to lead skillfully than input that will truly equip you with how to do it in practice.

Even so, there are strategies that can protect your from overwhelm and tools you can rely on to prevent unnecessary stress.

It's possible to learn the skills that will equip you to develop mutually supportive working relationships with subordinates, peers and superiors.

And once more, the gains are not just yours, but will reach everyone in your sphere of influence.
With skillful support, you can restore your work-life balance and bring your best self to both spheres.

You Can Find Your 'Leader Within'

Leadership begins with you.

When we try to lead another, most of us begin by trying to *move them*. This is apt to feel heavy-going, and may generate resistance and conflicts that take a long time to unpick.

The alternative is a paradigm that recognises that the easiest way to inspire others to move is to move yourself first.

This is often a scary path to tread, because it can make us feel vulnerable and exposed.

That's why the leaders we admire the most are the ones who show up with the conviction and daring that lets them do what others hesitate to even attempt.

Building the confidence to make decisions and take action while fully aware of the potential risks is the surer path.

Leadership coaching with Margarita can help you scrutinise your thought process and key decision points, in a safe and non-judgemental environment.

Once you've developed a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of what's going on, both tactically and strategically, you can then begin to develop your leadership skills in the areas where you need it most.

I'm here to help you get there.

"Coaching with Margarita turned out to be exactly what I needed. At first, I thought it might be just a generic boring thing that you go through and at the end there is no tangible output, but it wasn't.

It was time well-spent. I actually got to discuss my "modus operandi" with Margarita and she worked through the details with me. She was very sharp in picking up on things that I didn't realise were pulling me back. She helped scrutinise my thought process, key decision points, and showed me what I should work on.

Now I know better where I am leading my career towards (leading being the keyword here), and have the 'tools' to prevent unnecessary stress."

The Wellbeing Perspective
The strain of *trying to lead* can take its toll.

Headaches, stress, sleep disturbances are common expressions of the strain.

Discovering the effortless way to lead feels like a relief and makes space for enjoyment, connection and creativity.

That way, leading enhances your sense of flow and and accomplishment, instead of acting as a drain on your resources.
Positively Life-Changing

"The guidance I've received from Margarita has been positively life-changing. After each session I enjoy with her, I end up with another glorious nugget of self-realisation that has a profound impact on my mental wellbeing and my day-to-day life.

Ahead of my first taste of psycho-synthesis with Margarita, I was experiencing a constant tightness in the head and chest, stress and burn-out. All of that has almost completely disappeared. I'm very confident it isn't just fleeting relief. That's because the depth of introspection she has navigated me through has astonishingly revealed some fundamental truths about my identity, behaviours, beliefs and desires.

I haven't felt this much at ease, self-confident and grounded in years."

The blueprint for HOW to lead
Here's what I've learnt from teaching people to lead and follow in a physical format - the dance of Argentine Tango.

These instructions for the "minimum effective dose" for leading are the distillation of several years' work:
1
Join them
Create a connection with the people you seek to lead, so that together you form an 'us'
2
Move you
If they are in your circle, as you move, they will move with you (unless there is a compelling reason why they can't).
I know this works, because I've tested these instructions on roomfuls of people with no previous experience, and they were dancing together, as pairs and as a community in the confines of the room, within 5 minutes.

And I know this is relevant to the subtle realm of leading people in organisations and beyond, because experience demonstrates that this lens reliably flushes out what isn't working and provides useful clues for what to try next.
You may be wondering
I already feel over-burdened. How do your clients find the space to add coaching sessions to their endless list of tasks?
My clients find me because they're looking for something to help them radically change the landscape of their working lives.

Hope might provide the initial spark for their contacting me (or it might be a recommendation from a respected colleague or a friend).

Pretty quickly though, their confidence in the transformative effect of our sessions upgrades our meetings from just a line on their 'to-do' list to an interval for solace and discovery.

Our sessions are your time to draw nourishment. You can look forward to this point in your week when you know burdens will be lifted and you can begin to expand and breathe freely.
It's hard to imagine that just a few conversations can really transform my experiences at work. Is this for real?
When people feel truly heard and acknowledged, they begin to trust themselves in a new way. They begin to be able to rest in themselves, in a deeply restorative way.

Of course, I cannot make you any promises about changes to your situation at work. However, I can guarantee that you will leave our sessions with new skills and perspectives that you can use to amplify your efforts to steer things in a positive direction.
I've done management training, surely that should be enough?
Research has demonstrated that skills introduced at trainings often fail to embed, unless practiced consistently for a while after the training.

Trainings also leave a gap between presenting the principles, and implementing and adjusting these to address the nuances of the specific situation/s you need to resolve.

Coaching works with your issues in real time. Any relevant skills can be learnt/enhanced in context with your specific situation. You get ongoing support as situations or challenges emerge and develop.

Ultimately, these two modes of enhancing your skills and supporting in to succeed and thrive in the workplace are complementary.
How will you support me if I get overwhelmed?
It is quite common for people to struggle with some aspect of this type of exploration, in ways that are not readily comprehensible to the person themselves.

My previous career as a teacher of Argentine Tango had alerted me to this, so I trained in counselling skills before I began studying for my coaching qualification. This means that I am more equipped than most coaches to handle the full range of emotional responses and difficulties.

My experience demonstrates that, with the right support, people do get beyond emotional turmoil that had initially kept them blocked. Sometimes we need to feel heard, seen and accepted - received, even as we are struggling with something. This need doesn't mean that you'll stay stuck forever, or that you're trying to offload responsibility. We all need care and compassionate company at times!

The testimonials shown on the 'Real Experiences' page attest to how well-supported my clients feel.
