Coaching with Psychosynthesis

GET HELP WITH YOUR HUMAN PROBLEMS
Photo by Lachlan Dempsey on Unsplash
Some problems can be solved by installing an app or getting a consultant to put together an action plan for you. You could call those 'technical problems'.

What's left could be called 'human problems', the stuff of life that needs a human touch and sensitive handling.

This might be those areas where a simple 'here's what you do' is not going to cut it.

These are often those challenges where, even if you knew what to do, getting to the place where you have the clarity + courage + conviction to take the action is the real snag.

When you feel convinced and clear, you can act freely.
SOME THINGS A COACH KNOWS
Think better
Update Your map
Re-frame
Thinking: Focused and Diffused
Did you know that there are two types of thinking?

The discovery of Focused and Diffused thinking modes is revolutionising fields like teaching and learning.

Briefly, when we try to focus in exclusively on something, we lose a lot of the 'surrounding' information. Alternating Focused and Diffused modes allows you to build up a much more comprehensive picture of any situation - and spot those 'hidden' opportunities.
Update your operating map
We all operate in the world based on how we view the world - you could call it your 'operating map'.

Everybody's map develops glitches, areas that you haven't updated since you were a tiny tot, conclusions you'd reached in a hurry which have been misleading you ever since.

I can help you identify where your inner map has gone astray, and help you update it so it lets you navigate your world much more reliably.
Get a 3D perspective on your situation
Your expectations frame where you look.

This makes it hard for you to see 'outside the box'. A coach will prompt you to turn your attention to areas you haven't considered, leading you to discover whole dimensions to your challenge that you had not been aware of.

Once you have something 'in your picture', you have more options for how to handle it.
What coaching can do for you
Coaching adds the commitment, skills and outside perspective of a professional to your efforts and projects.

DESIGN BRIEF FOR YOUR FUTURE
When I am working with clients on their goals, and they are listing all the reasons why they cannot accomplish/have X that they long for, they tell me it's because there is an obstacle Y and a concern Z.

Yet all the while, I am hearing a different story.

At some point, I invite them to consider:
'If I'm hearing you right, if Y were taken care of, and the way you go after your goal X works just fine around Z, you'd be good to go?'

They look at me, startled, because suddenly I've described a version of their future that works for them. They now know for themselves: In every complaint there is the seed of a wish.

Let's tease out the Design Brief for the future of your dreams!

Why you need Psychosynthesis psychology

Coaching methodologies can go a long way to helping you get clearer on the terrain you're travelling. But they are only capable of working with the stuff you know consciously.

To reach the 'below the waterline' stuff, the stuff you only-just-know, you need deeper psychology.

This is where Psychosynthesis psychology comes in. It has been called the 'heights and depths' psychology. In a manner of speaking, it lets you access the deeper depths of your inner world - and the higher heights.

INTRODUCING PSYCHOSYNTHESIS

Psychosynthesis is an approach to restoring your psyche to health and wholeness.

'Synthesis' means bringing together, integrating, harmonising - and also creating.

Psychosynthesis provides a comprehensive view of the human psyche which incorporates the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects.

On the practical side, it equips practitioners with procedures and techniques that are powerful and reliable.

RECLAIM ALL YOUR FACULTIES

Daily stresses of life cause the psyche in most people to 'fragment'. This means that some parts of you get, metaphorically speaking, parcelled off and 'frozen'. Think of an iceberg floating in the ocean - the water in the iceber is no longer part of the flow. The water, now turned into ice, operates by its own rules.

It is this fragmentation that makes you do things that you yourself are uneasy about or do not expect, causing outbursts or apparently illogical actions.

The familiar expression 'the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing' describes this common experience well. It is as if you're doing battle with yourself.

Once we reintegrate these parcelled-off parts of your psyche, you will have command of all your faculties, with the clarity and strength you need to succeed.

The best way to break through any barrier is to access a point of perfect stillness at the center of your being, a self deeper than your senses or your mind. We modern, scientific thinkers are rarely taught that such a thing exists, much less how to connect with it. But every ancient tradition holds that from this still core of the self, this infinitely fertile emptiness, springs all that is authentic about you: your identity, your ability to recognize truth, the real operating instructions for your life.
Martha Beck, author of 'The Joy Diet'
YOU ARE NOT YOUR PAST

Modern psychology has been telling us how much we are shaped by our past. This is only a part-truth.

As you are striding ahead, your past is where your 'back foot' is. It's where you've been, it's the platform from which you will take your next step.

Where you are, and where you've been, does not determine where you are headed.

Where you place your next step is up to you.
The future is for you to make
Your future is uncharted.

More than that, your future cannot be chartered. It is too fluid for that - more like the sea than the dry land.

Your future is not determined by your past, or some pre-scripted destiny.

It is for you to make.

Your contribution matters.
FAQs
You might be wondering

Q:
Do you use any specific methodologies?
A:
I work with a number of coaching methodologies, most commonly something called GROW.

GROW is a popular coaching methodology. The title is a mnemonic, which decodes like this:

Goals (where you want to be headed)
Reality (where you're currently at)
Options / Obstacles (for your path ahead)
Will - which path you will choose for your journey

In our work together, I help you map out and triangulate the 'territory' you're travelling, making the path ahead much clearer.

I also draw on a portfolio of other approaches from coaching and practical psychology, because there is no one answer to everything.

I specialise in Psychosynthesis psychology (see the next Question).
Q:
Is Psychosynthesis similar to analysis?
A:
Synthesis is complementary to analysis.

Analysis takes something apart to looks at its constituent parts. This can be helpful for understanding and upgrading each element separately.

Synthesis puts the elements together and gets them to integrate, harmonise, so that you can move forward in a whole-hearted way.

You've heard the expression 'the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing'. This is an apt description for how we sometimes function inside, as well. Think of any complicated decision you're trying to make: one bit of you is counselling going one way, and another bit of you would rather go a different way. However much you try to argue it out, reaching agreement is often far from obvious. This is where the powerful approach of Psychosynthesis can really help.
